Getting Started with BiblioFuse

BiblioFuse is a free comic and ebook reader for iPhone, iPad, and Mac that supports EPUB, CBZ, CBR, PDF, ZIP, RAR, and TXT files on iOS 17 or later. You can load files instantly via the built-in Wi-Fi Transfer feature — no cable, no iTunes, and no cloud account required. Tags, ratings, and reading progress sync automatically across all your Apple devices via iCloud.

You downloaded a reading app, copied a folder of CBZ files, and now your library looks like a filing cabinet after a tornado. Sound familiar?

BiblioFuse is built around a simple idea: your ebook, comic, and document collection should feel like a proper library — organized, fast, and entirely yours. No cloud uploads, no subscriptions, no ads. Just your files, on your devices.

This guide covers everything you need to go from zero to a working library in a few minutes.

Step 1 — Add Your First Books

BiblioFuse supports EPUB, PDF, CBZ, CBR, ZIP, RAR, and TXT. There are three ways to get files in:

Share from another app — on iPhone or iPad, open any compatible file in Files, Mail, or Safari. Tap the Share icon and choose Open in BiblioFuse. The file lands in your library instantly.

Wi-Fi Transfer — this is the fastest way to bulk-import a large collection from your Mac or PC. In BiblioFuse, go to Settings → Wi-Fi Import and toggle it on. A local URL appears on screen — open it in your desktop browser and drag files straight in. No cable, no iTunes, no cloud.

Mac Home Library Streaming — if your main collection lives on a Mac, install the BiblioFuse Mac app and enable Home Library. Your iPhone and iPad will see your full Mac library over Wi-Fi — or over 5G via Tailscale — without copying anything to the device.

Step 2 — Organize with Tags and Ratings

Once your books are in, long-press any cover to open the action menu. From here you can:

  • Tag the book with custom labels — Sci-Fi, To Read, Finished, anything you like
  • Rate it from 1 to 5 stars
  • Delete it from the device without removing it from your Mac library

Tags and ratings sync across your iPhone, iPad, and Mac via iCloud. The filter bar at the top of the library grid lets you sort and filter by tag, rating, or file type — so you can always find what you're looking for.

Step 3 — Pick Your Reading Mode

Tap any book cover to open it. BiblioFuse detects the file type and defaults to the right reading mode, but you can switch at any time by tapping the toolbar and choosing Layout.

ModeBest for
PagedComics, manga, picture books
Continuous scrollWebtoons, long-form PDFs
ReflowableEPUB novels

Peek Zoom is worth trying on dense comic pages: tap and hold any panel to get a magnified overlay without losing your place. It's faster than pinch-to-zoom and keeps your reading position intact.

Step 4 — Free Up Storage with Compression

Large CBZ and EPUB files add up fast, especially on a 128 GB iPhone. BiblioFuse includes an on-device compression tool — nothing is uploaded.

  1. Long-press a book in the library grid and tap Compress.
  2. Drag the quality slider. Higher compression = smaller file, lower compression = better image quality.
  3. Tap Compress. The file is replaced in place when done.

To merge a manga series into a single volume, long-press to select multiple CBZ files, then tap Merge. BiblioFuse combines them in reading order and drops the result back into your library.

What to Explore Next

Once your library is set up, a few things are worth trying:

  • BiblioFuse Web Tool — compress and merge EPUB, PDF, and CBZ files in any browser, no installation needed. Useful when you're on a Windows or Linux machine.
  • iCloud Bookshelf — enable it under Settings to sync your entire library, reading positions, tags, and ratings across iPhone, iPad, and Mac automatically.
  • Comic Duplicate Scanner — a companion Mac app that finds duplicate CBZ and photo files using perceptual hashing, so you can clean up without reviewing every file by hand.

Frequently Asked Questions

What formats does BiblioFuse support? BiblioFuse reads EPUB, PDF, CBZ, CBR, ZIP, RAR, and TXT files natively — no conversion required. Both CBZ and CBR open directly without any additional setup.

Do I need an account or subscription to use BiblioFuse? No. BiblioFuse is free to download and requires no account, sign-in, or subscription to read your files. Your library is stored locally on your device.

How do I transfer my comic collection to BiblioFuse? The fastest method is Wi-Fi Transfer: open BiblioFuse, enable Wi-Fi Import in Settings, then visit the URL shown in any browser on your computer and drag files in. A 10 GB collection typically transfers in a few minutes over a home Wi-Fi network.

Does reading progress sync between iPhone and iPad? Yes — reading position, tags, ratings, and reading direction settings all sync across iPhone, iPad, and Mac via iCloud. Enable iCloud Drive for BiblioFuse in your device settings to activate sync.

Can I read manga right-to-left in BiblioFuse? Yes. Tap the center of any page while reading to open the controls, then switch the reading direction to Right to Left. BiblioFuse saves this setting per volume so you only need to set it once per series.
